Description

Ovid Wind Farm Project (WFP) is a renewable energy initiative located on agricultural land in Ovidiopol, near Odesa, Ukraine. Operational since May 1, 2019, the project aims to supply clean, renewable electricity to Ukraine's national grid, reducing the country’s reliance on fossil fuels and curbing greenhouse gas emissions. Without this project, the equivalent electricity demand would have been met by Ukraine's grid, primarily powered by nuclear and thermal plants. Developed by Ovid Wind LLC, the project plays a vital role in promoting sustainability, reducing the carbon footprint, and driving energy diversification in Ukraine. Due to the significant upfront investment required, the project heavily relies on carbon credits as a financial incentive, without which its implementation would not have been feasible. Key Highlights: - Installed Capacity: 32.67 MW, generated through 9 state-of-the-art General Electric (GE 3.6-137) wind turbines. - Annual Energy Generation: 115,428.17 MWh of clean electricity supplied to the grid. - Carbon Emission Reductions: 74,239 tCO₂ annually, totaling 742,390 tCO₂ over the 10-year crediting period. Beyond its environmental impact, the Ovid WFP contributes to the local economy by meeting regional energy demands and creating job opportunities during both the construction and operation phases. Despite facing operational challenges due to the ongoing war conflict in Ukraine, including temporary shutdowns in 2022, the project has demonstrated resilience. War-related disruptions, while acknowledged, have not permanently impacted operations, underscoring the project's importance in challenging circumstances. Carbon credits The Ovid Wind Farm Project project is verified and registered by The International Carbon Registry (ICR). Founded in 2020 and headquartered in Iceland, the ICR is a global organization dedicated to addressing the challenges of climate change. The ICR operates a quality management system aligned with ISO 9001:2015.
