Description

Wakefield Biochar is a minority-owned company focused on making our planet healthier through their “Better Soil. Better World.” philosophy. The company is based in Valdosta, Georgia, a city that thrived from the forestry industry, specifically pine products, for over 100 years. Wakefield BioChar currently employs 23 individuals across its operations which focus on the management of pulp and paper mill waste. It is obvious to Wakefield that such wastes should be viewed as resources, a vision they have transformed into a sustainable business. Wakefield Biochar has created a series of branded biochar products and compost blends for retail Walmart, Lowes, Amazon, and Sam's Club. In addition, they supply local farmers with biochar, spreading it on pasture lands to improve grass yields, as well as using biochar blends for land remediation projects. The feedstock is pine bark from FSC-certified forests. Carbon credits are key to expanding Wakefield BioChar’s business and their ability to sequester carbon. Wakefield Biochar is currently undergoing a rigorous audit process and CORCs are expected to be issued.
