Biochar

C03000000

Description

Every log that goes through the mill is fully utilized, whether it is a unit of high-quality studs, chips, sawdust, hog fuel, or shavings. The sawmill has biomass-fired a co-generation boiler that runs 24/7 producing steam for use in manufacturing lumber-based products and electricity generation. Biochar is a by-product of steam production. The boiler is fed with bark from the company’s own lumber operations and additional bark and wood waste are sourced from the local region. During 1st January 2020– 31st October 2021, the company produced and shipped 4414 dry metric tons of biochar, which represent 10.8% of the total captured energy output of the boiler. The char is shipped to nearby farmers, who use it as a soil amendment.
