The “Large-Scale Sustainable Forestation Project in Khun Mae Kum Mee, Wung Chin, and Mae Yom-Mae Pang Plantation, Phrae Province, Thailand” is a forestry initiative spanning three forest plantations in Phrae Province: Khun Mae Kum Mee Forest Plantation – Located in Huai Rong Subdistrict, Rong Kwang District Wung Chin Forest Plantation – Located in Napoon Subdistrict, Wung Chin District Mae Yom-Mae Pang Forest Plantation – Located in Wung Chin Subdistrict, Wung Chin District The project is developed by the Forest Industry Organization (FIO), Economic Timber Innovation Division and follows the T-VER-METH-FOR-03 methodology under Thailand’s Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Reduction Program for sustainable forestry (Large-Scale Sustainable Forestation Project). The project was officially registered under the T-VER program on August 22, 2016, in accordance with T-VER-METH-FOR-03 (Version 1) and is designed to run for 20 years (from July 1, 2016 – December 1, 2036).

Verification Report Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Reduction Projects in accordance with Thailand's Standards

The Large-Scale Sustainable Forestation Project is a long-term afforestation initiative spearheaded by the Forest Industry Organization (FIO) under Thailand’s Voluntary Emission Reduction Program (T-VER). The project spans over three forest plantations in Phrae Province, Northern Thailand:

- Khun Mae Kum Mee Forest Plantation – Huai Rong Subdistrict, Rong Kwang District
- Wung Chin Forest Plantation – Napoon Subdistrict, Wung Chin District
- Mae Yom–Mae Pang Forest Plantation – Wung Chin Subdistrict, Wung Chin District

This forestry project is designed to run for 20 years (2016–2036), with a projected carbon sequestration potential of 43,628 tCO₂e annually. The project's goal is to restore degraded forest areas while contributing to climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and community development.
As a core component of the project, Khun Mae Kum Mee is managed under Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) principles, ensuring a balanced integration of environmental protection, social responsibility, and economic viability.

Environmental Impact

1. Biodiversity Conservation
At least 15% of the plantation area is allocated for conservation zones, including High Conservation Value (HCV) areas, stream banks, natural forests, and buffer zones. These protected zones support local biodiversity, serving as critical habitats for plant and animal species. Baseline biodiversity assessments have been conducted, and long-term ecological monitoring is ongoing. Soil nutrients are analyzed through sampling, and water quality is tested annually for pH, BOD, turbidity, sediment, and microbial content using certified laboratory protocols.

2. Soil and Water Protection
To combat erosion and enhance water retention, the project employs check dam construction and promotes agroforestry systems. These practices also contribute to improving soil fertility and providing water resources to surrounding communities. Streambank conservation further aligns with sustainable watershed management principles.

3. GHG Emission Reduction
The project minimizes greenhouse gas emissions by prioritizing manual labor over machinery and limiting the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Fire prevention strategies are implemented collaboratively with local communities, supported by FSC-aligned training and awareness programs.
