Description
Located in the Eastern Anatolia Geographical district of Turkey, the Kirazlık Hydroelectric Power Plant (Kirazlık HPP) project is a gravity dam built over the Botan Stream, which is one of the major tributaries of the River Tigris. The project serves two purposes: to regulate the outflow of the Alkumru Dam upstream and to generate hydroelectric power using a run-of-the-river design. Key Highlights: - The Kirazlık HPP has a total capacity of 46.11 MW, which is enough to produce 150,610 MWh of electricity per year. - By generating electricity that would have otherwise been produced by grid-connected power plants or new generation sources, the project reduces annual CO2 emissions by an estimated 81,307 tonnes of CO2e. - The project contributes to Turkey's national goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix. The Kirazlık HPP project is important as it provides a clean and renewable source of energy for Turkey, reducing carbon emissions and supporting the national goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix. Additionally, the project serves as an example for other countries seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and transition to more sustainable energy sources.
