Description

Ambatolampy 20 MW Solar PV Project GreenYellow Madagascar has constructed and operates the Ambatolampy 20 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Ambatolampy, located in the South-East of Vakinankaratra region, Madagascar. This project involves the installation of photovoltaic (PV) panels, which capture solar energy and convert it into electricity that is exported to the national grid. Key Highlights: - The project is the first of its kind on the island, providing a clean and renewable source of energy. - The solar PV power plant generates approximately 23,431 tCO2e emission reductions per year. - The project will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by substituting grid electricity with clean and renewable energy. - The project will aid in the reduction of Madagascar's dependence on imported fossil fuels. - Over the 7-year crediting period, the project will generate approximately 164,018 tCO2e of emission reductions. This project is of significant importance as it provides a reliable and sustainable source of energy to Madagascar. The country has been heavily reliant on imported fossil fuels for electricity production, with thermal power stations accounting for 514 MW of electricity produced compared to just 162 MW produced by hydropower plants. The Ambatolampy 20 MW solar PV project provides an alternative to this heavily polluting energy source, and it will significantly reduce the country's carbon footprint by eliminating a considerable amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
