Description

The CIKEL Brazilian Amazon REDD APD Project works to prevent the emissions that would result from planned deforestation activities on a property located in Paragominas Municipality, Para state, Brazil. The project area covers 27,434.9 hectares of native forest within the Rio Capim, Poty, Cauaxi, Sumal, and Caculé forest areas of the RCC property, which totals 209,130.54 hectares. Key Highlights: - The CIKEL Brazilian Amazon REDD APD Project stops planned deforestation activities and instead conserves the forest area, continuing limited forest management activities under Forest Stewardship Council® Certification with Low Impact Logging practices. - The project is committed to supporting sustainable social development and maintaining and improving biodiversity monitoring at the RCC under the FSC certification and REDD activities. - The project is expected to prevent the emission of 9,432,299 metric tons of CO2 into the atmosphere over the next ten years. This project is important because it effectively reduces carbon emissions that would have otherwise been released into the atmosphere from deforestation activities. Additionally, the project supports sustainable social development and responsible forest management practices, contributing to the preservation of the biodiversity found within the RCC forest areas. By choosing to conserve and manage the forest instead of deforesting it, this project is making a significant impact in the fight against climate change.
