Project Name

Inner Mongolia Chao’Er Improved Forest Management Project

Description

The Inner Mongolia Chao’er Forest Industry Improved Forest Management (IFM) Project is located in Hulun Buir City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, P.R. China. Implemented by Chao’er Forest Industry Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of the China Inner Mongolia Forest Industry Group. The project aims to protect 40,027.50 hectares of previously logging-designated commercial forest. Project Scope and Implementation The project is carried out within three forest farms: Dacongshan Forest Farm, Quansheng Forest Farm, and Taerqi Forest Farm. The area includes forests of varying ages, from saplings to mature stands. Prior to the project's inception, these forests were designated for commercial timber production and logged annually based on plans approved by local forestry authorities. From the project's start date in December 2017, commercial logging activities within the project area ceased, with management activities limited to forest tending and sustainable practices. The implementation period spans 60 years, concluding in December 2077. Key Activities and Objectives To ensure the preservation and health of the forest, the project emphasizes: - Forest Resource Supervision and Monitoring: A dedicated ranger team has been established to monitor and address threats such as diseases, illegal logging, hunting, and fires. This proactive approach helps prevent disturbances that could compromise the forest ecosystem. - Improved Forest Management Practices: By halting commercial logging, the project focuses on ecological restoration and sustainable management, ensuring the forest’s long-term viability and its ability to provide essential ecosystem services. Climate Impact The project is expected to generate approximately 8,372,662 tCO2e in emission reductions during the 30-year crediting period, averaging annual reductions of 279,089 tCO2e. The Inner Mongolia Chao’er Forest Industry IFM Project represents a critical effort to transition from commercial logging to sustainable forest management. It not only addresses local environmental concerns but also contributes to global efforts to combat climate change. Carbon Credits The carbon credits for this project are issued by Verra under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program, one of the world’s most widely used GHG crediting programs. Verra’s programs offer comprehensive methodologies and frameworks that support the design and implementation of carbon reduction, sustainable development, and plastic waste reduction projects globally.
