MSR-X Verified Plastics Recovery & Recycling

MSR-X advances a structured circular-economy model by converting post-consumer plastics — including LDPE, HDPE, PP, PVC, ABS, and PS — into independently verified material-substitution emission reductions.

The project addresses a persistent global challenge: large volumes of decentralised plastic waste currently entering landfill, incineration, or non-traceable recycling streams without verifiable environmental outcomes or chain-of-custody integrity.

Through structured recovery, traceable processing, and conservative lifecycle accounting, MSR-X enables quantifiable reductions associated with displacement of virgin polymer production.

At the core of the project is Xworks’ digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) system, designed to capture, reconcile, and validate material flows required for emission reduction quantification.

Geo-tagged photographic and documentary evidence

Certified weighbridge and logistics records

Independent third-party validation and verification

Each verified batch is tracked end-to-end, ensuring full traceability from collection through processing and sale into formal markets.

Emission reductions are calculated per batch using:

Polymer-specific conservative substitution ratios

Measured yield and purity data (with conservative defaults where required)

UK Government GHG Conversion Factors (2025)

The methodology is aligned with ISO 14040/44 lifecycle assessment principles and ISO 14064 greenhouse gas quantification standards. It is designed to be compatible with evolving material traceability and due-diligence frameworks within the EU.

Each verified reduction corresponds to one tonne of CO₂e reduced through conservative material substitution accounting.

MSR-X delivers measurable climate and socio-economic benefits:

Quantified and independently verified reductions in greenhouse gas emissions through conservative displacement of virgin polymer production.

SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production:

Improved traceability and structured recovery of post-consumer plastics within formal supply chains.

Enhanced revenue stability for SME recyclers through monetisation of verified environmental outcomes.

Targeted inclusion of women in participating SME operations, with a minimum 30% workforce participation goal subject to local labour market conditions.

By transforming unmanaged plastic flows into verified emission reductions, MSR-X strengthens circular supply chains while supporting local economic resilience.

Xworks operates under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems to ensure operational consistency and environmental controls.

All emission calculations follow ISO-aligned lifecycle and greenhouse gas accounting standards.

Reductions are issued only after independent validation and verification by Control Union (ISO 17029 accredited). Each verified reduction is serialised, traceable, and subject to one-time retirement to prevent duplication or double counting.

The dMRV system maintains full audit records, including batch linkage, transfer history, and retirement status.

XTokenz Verified Plastics Recovery & Recycling (XVRR) — Pilot Phase

Last version for backup
XTokenz is pioneering a new model for circular-economy impact by transforming post-consumer plastics — including LDPE, HDPE, PP, PVC, ABS, and PS — into independently verified MSR-X (Material Substitution Reduction) units.

The project tackles one of the most persistent global waste challenges: millions of tonnes of decentralized plastics that currently enter landfill, incineration, or uncertified recycling channels without traceability and without meeting emerging Digital Product Passport (DPP) requirements.

Technology & Methodology

At the core of the project is Xworks’ digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) platform, which captures and validates all material flows required for MSR-X issuance.

Using a combination of:

digital mass balance,

geo-tagged photographic and documentary evidence,

certified inputs and logistics records,

third-party validator attestations,

each tonne of material is tracked end-to-end.

Verified outcomes are tokenized into XTokenz MSR-X Credits, where:

1 MSR-X = 1 tCO₂e reduced through virgin-material substitution

Avoided emissions are calculated per batch using:

Polymer-specific virgin substitution factors

Measured yield data (with conservative defaults only where needed)

Actual transport routes

UK Government GHG Conversion Factors (2025)

The methodology is aligned with the Gold Standard Programme of Activities GS23382 and the forthcoming Gold Standard Consolidated Methodology for Recovery and Recycling of Materials (2025).

Environmental & Social Impact

XTokenz MSR-X Credits deliver measurable climate and social benefits, contributing to:

SDG 13 – Climate Action: displacement of virgin polymer production, verified in tCO₂e.

SDG 12 – Responsible Production: traceability compliant with EU DPP and Basel frameworks.

SDG 8 – Decent Work & Economic Growth: new revenue streams for SMEs and fair-work verification.

SDG 5 – Gender Equality: minimum 30% women’s participation in SME operations.

By turning unmanaged plastic flows into verified, traceable MSR-X units, XTokenz advances circular-economy adoption while strengthening local economic resilience.

Scientific Rigor & Transparency

Xworks operates under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, ensuring consistent quality, environmental controls, and operational integrity.

All MSR-X calculations follow ISO 14040/44 and ISO 14067 principles.

Credits are issued only after independent verification by Control Union and are then immutably recorded on-chain via Carbonmark’s issuance framework to ensure transparency and prevent double counting.

The dMRV platform provides a full audit.

—a groundbreaking method that accelerates the natural oceanic carbon cycle to combat anthropogenic emissions. This innovative approach permanently stores CO₂ in seawater as equilibrated calcium bicarbonates, increasing ocean alkalinity and helping restore marine ecosystems affected by acidification.Technology & Methodology

Limenet’s process mirrors and amplifies the Earth’s natural geochemical cycles. The company captures CO₂ from the atmosphere or industrial sources, such as the Iren biogas plant in Reggio Emilia, and reacts it with calcium carbonate (lime) and seawater in a controlled reactor. This reaction produces an aqueous solution of calcium bicarbonates, which is then released into the ocean. The result is a stable, long-term carbon sink, capable of sequestering CO₂ for over 10,000 years, while simultaneously improving ocean chemistry.

Environmental Impact & Co-Benefits

BOAE technology not only removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere but also provides a range of additional environmental benefits. By increasing ocean alkalinity, this approach plays a crucial role in mitigating ocean acidification, a major threat to marine ecosystems. The process fosters a more hospitable environment for marine biodiversity, particularly benefiting coral reefs, seagrasses, and calcifying organisms that depend on stable pH levels for survival.

In addition to enhancing biodiversity, Limenet’s technology supports fisheries and coastal ecosystems by stabilizing ocean chemistry, thereby promoting healthier fish populations and protecting marine food webs. Species highly sensitive to pH fluctuations, such as plankton and mollusks, benefit from these improvements, ensuring the resilience of oceanic ecosystems.
This initiative is particularly significant in Augusta, Sicily, where the site’s history as the quadrilatero della morte(Quadrilateral of Death)—an area devastated by petrochemical pollution—is being transformed into a beacon of environmental restoration.
